The Lafayette Daily Advertiser in Lafayette, Louisiana, a part of the USA TODAY NETWORK, is hiring a culture reporter to cover the food, music and rich social scene of the Acadiana region.

The region is filled with Grammy-winning musicians, James Beard nominated chefs and a unique and revered history unto itself. Residents proudly embrace and champion Zydeco music, Cajun cuisine and their neighbors who promote the area s heritage and traditions through art. People here cherish where they come from while still allowing cultural boundaries to be pushed somewhat by up-and-coming chefs and musicians.

We need a reporter who can hang out in a music hall and tell the stories of the people playing the music so the people dancing to it will want to read it. We need a reporter who will tromp through rice fields, crawfish farms and rows of sugarcane. We want someone who will sweat it out in a kitchen galley on a Saturday night as a new Cajun chef is figuring out how to clear tickets from the expo fast enough to feed all his new and very hungry customers. The ideal reporter will do this because being there even on a Saturday will allow the reporter to tell the best story possible.

We want a reporter who will embrace this community as their own and champion how we live and who we live with through the written word, video and social media.

It s an amazing job, honestly. Think about it; you get to hang out with creative artists making food and music that please people. That s a great gig.

We need someone who recognizes that opportunity and will seize upon it for their own art and craft: journalism. We need an ambitious, competitive go-getter who will join this dedicated newsroom team.

We are eager to learn more about you and how you fit this role. When you apply, don t limit your upload to a resume; show us what you ve done. To do so, put together a single document file that includes the following, in this order:
