KATC-TV is Acadiana's trusted source for local news, weather, and sports. As part of Gray Media, KATC is building on its tradition of award-winning journalism while expanding its commitment to innovative storytelling, breaking news coverage, and serving the communities of South Louisiana with urgency, accuracy, and integrity.

KATC-TV is looking for a Multimedia Journalist who can find compelling local stories, develop sources, and deliver strong journalism across broadcast and digital platforms. The ideal candidate is an energetic storyteller who can shoot, write, edit, and report independently while also responding quickly to breaking news and live coverage.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Pitch, develop, and produce compelling daily and enterprise stories that are relevant to viewers across Acadiana.
  • Build and maintain sources throughout the community and develop original story ideas rather than relying solely on assigned coverage.
  • Shoot, write, edit and present stories for television, digital and social platforms.
  • Deliver live reports from the field during breaking news, severe weather and other major events.
  • Write clearly, accurately and conversationally while meeting tight deadlines.
  • Produce digital stories and other content that complements and expands broadcast reporting.
  • Use social media as a reporting tool to gather information, connect with sources and engage with the audience.
  • Work closely with producers, photographers, assignment editors and newsroom managers to execute daily coverage and special projects.
  • Demonstrate strong news judgment and an understanding of the issues important to communities across South Louisiana.
  • Develop expertise in major local issues and consistently look for opportunities to advance stories beyond the initial news of the day.
  • Maintain high standards of accuracy, fairness, ethics and professionalism.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements include:

  • Strong writing, reporting, shooting and video-editing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop sources and generate original story ideas.
  • Strong live reporting and on-camera presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently in the field and make sound editorial decisions under deadline pressure.
  • Ability to cover breaking news and adapt quickly as stories develop.
  • Strong understanding of digital journalism, social media and multiplatform storytelling.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and time-management skills.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including early mornings, nights, weekends and holidays as news coverage requires.
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or a related field is preferred.
