KATC-TV is Acadiana's trusted source for local news, weather, and sports. As part of Gray Media, KATC is building on its tradition of award-winning journalism while expanding its commitment to innovative storytelling, breaking news coverage, and serving the communities of South Louisiana with urgency, accuracy, and integrity.

KATC is looking for an experienced journalist to join our team as a Weekend Anchor/Reporter. This position will anchor assigned weekend newscasts while also reporting original stories throughout the week for broadcast, digital, and social platforms. The ideal candidate is a strong storyteller with excellent news judgment who can lead breaking news coverage from both the anchor desk and the field.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Anchor assigned weekend newscasts in an authoritative, conversational, and engaging manner.
  • Report, shoot, write, and edit original stories for television, digital, and social platforms.
  • Develop sources and generate enterprise story ideas that reflect the issues and interests of communities across Acadiana.
  • Lead and contribute to breaking news coverage from both the anchor desk and the field.
  • Deliver live reports and effectively ad-lib during developing news and other unscripted situations.
  • Work closely with producers, meteorologists, and newsroom leadership to develop compelling and informative newscasts.
  • Write clear, accurate, and compelling broadcast and digital copy on deadline.
  • Conduct interviews and gather information from a wide range of sources.
  • Participate in daily editorial discussions and contribute meaningful story ideas.
  • Produce content for KATC's digital and social platforms and use those platforms to engage with viewers and advance reporting.
  • Represent KATC professionally at station-sponsored and community events.
  • Maintain high journalistic and ethical standards and ensure all reporting is fair, accurate, and properly sourced.
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on newsroom and coverage needs.

Qualifications/Requirements include, but are not limited to:

  • Previous professional television news experience is required.
  • Strong on-air presentation skills and the ability to communicate naturally and confidently.
  • Demonstrated reporting, writing and storytelling ability.
  • Strong news judgment and an understanding of what makes a story relevant to a local audience.
  • Ability to shoot, write and edit stories independently and work effectively as a multimedia journalist.
  • Ability to ad-lib effectively and remain composed during breaking news and other unscripted situations.
  • Experience with live reporting and breaking news coverage.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop sources and generate original story ideas.
  • Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and manage multiple assignments.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Understanding of digital journalism, social media and multiplatform storytelling.
  • Flexibility to work weekends, holidays and other shifts as news coverage requires.
  • Valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or a related field is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
