Overview

State Farm is looking for a Trial Attorney to join our Lafayette, LA Claim Litigation office. The role includes case ownership from inception to resolution, trial strategy development, and participation in trials, mediations, depositions, and hearings. Compensation is competitive with a base salary ranging from $115,000 to $150,000 annually and potential yearly incentive pay of up to 24%. This is a hybrid role requiring regular in‑office presence.

Responsibilities

• Handles litigation and other legal assignments in accordance with Law Department guidelines.
• Prepares and summarizes reports for proceedings.
• Develops trial strategy and case development.
• Attends litigation events including trials, mediations, depositions, and hearings.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of litigation experience, preferably insurance defense or personal injury.
• Significant medical malpractice or worker's compensation experience considered.
• Active law license in Louisiana and good standing.
• Eligibility to work in the U.S. immediately; no visa sponsorship will be provided.
• Must cease all outside legal practice before joining State Farm.

Required Skills

• Jury trial, mediation, deposition experience.
• File ownership.
• Knowledge of local and state discovery rules, trial procedures, and substantive law.
• Effective written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work in a team setting.
• Technology and software proficiency: electronic case management, document storage systems.

Education and Licenses

J.D. from an ABA‑accredited law school with excellent academic credentials. Must hold an active Louisiana law license.
