As a Mechanic within the construction industry, you will play a critical role in ensuring the optimal performance and safety of heavy-duty diesel trucks and construction equipment. Your expertise will be essential in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining complex mechanical systems including brakes, fuel systems, hydraulics, and alternators. You will work closely with the operations team to minimize equipment downtime and maximize productivity on job sites across the United States. This role demands a thorough understanding of diesel mechanics and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues efficiently. Ultimately, your work will directly contribute to the reliability and safety of construction machinery, supporting the successful completion of construction projects.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Proven experience as a diesel mechanic, specifically with diesel trucks and heavy construction equipment.
Strong knowledge of braking systems, fuel systems, hydraulics, and diesel engine mechanics.
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic reports.
Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various job sites within the United States.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification from a recognized diesel mechanic or automotive service excellence program.
Experience working in the construction industry or with heavy machinery.
Familiarity with computerized diagnostic tools and software.
Ability to operate welding and fabrication equipment.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Responsibilities:
Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on trucks and blasting, painting, and cleaning equipment to ensure operational safety and efficiency.
Diagnose mechanical problems using specialized tools and diagnostic equipment.
Ability to troubleshoot and repair transmissions, differentials, carburetors, distributors, fuel pumps, injectors, steering systems, starters, generators, universal joints, hydraulic systems, pumps and valves.
Complete daily maintenance and QC logs.
Repair or replace defective parts such as gaskets, braking systems, and diesel engine components to restore equipment functionality.
Maintain detailed records of maintenance and repair work performed, including parts used and labor hours.
Operate various power tools in accordance with company and safety policies.
Wear the personal protective equipment prescribed by posted signs, written instructions and work permits.
Understand and adhere to company safety policies and procedures.
Participate in company safety and training programs.
Comply with all applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the company and state.
Perform all other duties as assigned by management personnel.
Skills:
The required skills such as expertise in air compressors, diesel engines, hydraulics, and fuel systems are applied daily to diagnose and repair complex mechanical issues on company equipment. Proficiency with diesel mechanics and painting and cleaning equipment ensures that equipment operate safely and efficiently under demanding conditions. Knowledge of gaskets and alternators is essential for performing precise repairs and replacements that prevent equipment failure. Preferred skills like certification and experience with computerized diagnostic tools enhance the mechanic's ability to quickly identify problems and implement effective solutions.
