OverviewThe overall function of this position is to maintain, repair, and overhaul all types of equipment including heavy mobile equipment or complex mechanical systems on mobile equipment. The incumbent must be self‑motivated, able to perform duties with minimal supervision, and able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The position reports directly to the Mobile Equipment Shop Superintendent and is located in District 03 of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development.Minimum QualificationsOne year of experience or training as a mechanic.Job DutiesOverhauls, rebuilds and performs major repairs on heavy‑duty diesel equipment. Performs major repairs on gasoline engines of all makes and models. Performs final tune‑ups.Helps Shop Foreman and Shop Superintendent in providing guidance to lower‑level mechanics on all units. Also provides assistance and advice to lower‑level mechanics in the field in repairing hydraulic systems and engines.Performs diagnostic tests on various systems to locate malfunctions in electrical systems.Troubleshoots and repairs transmissions in heavy‑duty diesel equipment. Repairs standard and automatic transmissions.
