Environmental Specialist

The environmental specialist is an entry level position responsible for performing cleaning duties to maintain facility cleanliness according to safety and infection control standards and processes to support the achievement of the site's business goals and objectives.

The environmental specialist is supervised by the Chief Compliance Officer.

Employment Type: Part Time

The environmental specialist is expected to:

  • Ensure and maintain adequate supplies and equipment to carry out the duties necessary to keep the center clean and acceptable.
  • Be responsible for cleanliness of the center during working hours.
  • Clean and decontaminate examination rooms when necessary, following infection control policies and procedures.
  • Clean bathrooms, hallways, and any other areas by sweeping, mopping, as needed. Make rounds to ensure cleanliness of the areas during the day at least every 2 to 3 hours.
  • Mix or blend routine cleaning solutions to proper concentrations as necessary for various cleaning tasks.
  • Operate wet/dry vacuum for cleaning all areas as needed for spills.
  • Empty and decontaminate trash containers at the beginning of evening clinic and as needed.
  • Maintain all lobby areas for cleanliness throughout the day.
  • Put out wet signs and umbrella bags when weather indicated.
  • Dispose of potentially infectious waste according to biohazard standards when needed.
  • Maintain regular inventory of supplies and provide request for orders to supervisor.
  • Maintain offices during the day that require cleaning not supplied by night janitorial staff.
  • Adhere to all environmental services policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a good channel of communication with all departments by periodically checking to ensure that there are no environmental services issues in their areas.
  • Assume additional duties when necessary to ensure quality environmental services are being rendered at the site.
  • Will be required to travel off site to school-based clinic for cleaning, when necessary.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

The environmental specialist is also expected to demonstrate the mission and act in ways that advance the best interest of the customers entrusted to our care. Positively represent SWLA Center for Health Services (SWLA) in the workplace and the community. Present a professional image: apparel and appearance are appropriate according to SWLA department dress code. Demonstrate effective communication and listens attentively to the customer and promptly acts upon requests with consideration for patient privacy. Keep the customer informed about their care and treatment in a comfortable atmosphere. Respect the gifts and talents (the diversity that co-workers bring to their jobs) of each other. Demonstrates effective communication and assists co-workers as necessary. Respect the privacy and confidentiality of the customers we serve, our physicians, coworkers and the community. Acts as an advocate for our customers. Comply with organization/department policies and procedures, including but not limited to confidentiality, safety, cooperation/flexibility and attendance. Understand and comply with applicable federal/state laws and Standards of Conduct as related to assigned job duties. Participate in departmental or organizational quality. Continuous performance improvement activity.
