Job Title: Supervisor, Wastewater Recycling/Treatment / A Crew, Days

Reports To: Manager- Facilities Plant

Job Functions

Plans and supervises the scheduling of daily work assignments of all wastewater treatment personnel. Responsible for training and developing direct reports. Provides clear direction to hourly associates, contractors and vendors to ensure that First Solar's standards are being met. Responsible for communicating objectives, systems and policies to direct reports across four shifts.Responsible for working with the appropriate departments to handle employee relations issues.

Experience:

  • 3-5 years in water treatment, environmental, chemistry or related field with 2 years of supervisory responsibilities in a manufacturing setting.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry or Engineering preferred.
  • Associates degree in a science or technical discipline with 5-7 years' experience in their field of study.

Required Skills/Competencies:

  • Proven strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with wet chemical processes.
  • Wastewater treatment capabilities in manufacturing environment.
  • Solid understanding of chemical compatibilities.
  • Experience in chemical analyses – both instrumental and wet
  • Proven safe handling and experience of industrial chemicals.
  • Proven mechanical skills.
  • Good understanding of instrument calibration.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with mechanical equipment.
  • Proven problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Able to interpret and read basic mechanical engineering drawings.
  • Good understanding of lab practices, instruments and equipment.
  • Proficient use of all Microsoft Office suite programs.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Responsible to supervise the waste water treatment associates on four shifts, including time keeping, scheduling, setting goals and discipline.
  • Responsible for the operation of the waste water treatment and process water systems.
  • Develop documentation and training for any process changes.
  • Supervises the troubleshooting and servicing of all waste water equipment and is responsible for the preventative maintenance program.
  • Responsible to work with Corporate Water Waste Engineering to ensure proper hand off of new or modified WWT/UPW systems. Including qualification, work instructions, preventive maintenance and training.
  • Manages the timely completion of special projects as required.
  • Identifies and recommends opportunities for cost savings and continuous improvement projects.
  • Interfaces with other Company and Supplier personnel as required, such as during the ordering of necessary chemicals and materials.
  • Creating effective communications to foster team building.
  • Strict adherence to all safety procedures and good housekeeping standards.
  • Oversight and understanding of the responsibilities of the wastewater treatment operators to properly manage hazardous waste.
  • Responsible for the proper labeling of gaylords and drums, ensuring they are dated and closed at all times.
  • Inform EHS Department of any waste management issues that arise and of any new associates that need to be trained.

Reporting Relationships:

  • Position reports directly to Manager- Facilities Plant.
  • This position have direct reports on four shifts.

Travel:

  • No regular travel is required outside the First Solar work site.

US Physical Requirements:

  • Will sit, stand or walk short distances for up to the entire duration of a shift
  • Will climb stairs on an occasional basis
  • Will lift, push or pull up to 27 pounds on an occasional basis
  • Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis
  • 20/40 vision in each eye, with or without correction, is required
  • Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures
  • May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis
  • May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; steel toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective jacket or apron and arm guards)
