Job Description
The Utah State Board of Education (USBE) is currently seeking a motivated and competent individual to fill the position of Child Nutrition Specialist. This job is an opportunity to work for an agency that strives to make a difference in the lives of students in Utah every day. A Child Nutrition Specialist works collaboratively and independently to provide leadership, technical assistance and assess compliance of applicable program laws, regulations, policy, and administrative rules for Federal and State Child Nutrition Programs.
This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule after completion of training and at the discretion of the agency and management.

Principal Duties
As a Child Nutrition Specialist:
- Understand, interpret, apply, and assess compliance with federal and state regulation, policy, rules, and guidance.
- Lead and support team members with administrative review activities (i.e., analyze program documents and systems, assess procurement and financial records, identify and document technical assistance and compliance issues, conduct virtual and in person activities program locations through the state, complete review documentation, prepare written reports, calculate monies owed, participate in appeals or hearings).
- Investigate complaints made against program operators (i.e., public, and private schools, residential childcare institutions, childcare and family day care homes, adult day care homes).
- Assist in data collection and assessment to determine program eligibility. Work with program operators and internal teams to gather and review program information to accurately inform federal and state reports. Adhere to data sharing and disclosure regulations and policies.
- Provide training to colleagues, program operators and stakeholders.
- Display ethical and professional behavior when collaborating with colleagues, program operators and stakeholders.
- Manage daily communication with local sponsors through letters, email, phone calls, virtual conferences and in person visits to provide technical assistance.
- Maintain professionalism while providing customer service by recognizing and accurately addressing sponsors' needs.
- On occasion, you may be asked to organize, facilitate and present at training workshops and conferences.
- Travel throughout the state of Utah, this includes overnight stays. You may be asked to travel out of state on occasion.

The Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate for this position is someone who has:
- A bachelor's degree in public health, accounting, business, foods and nutrition, dietetics, education, or a related field.
- Prefer minimum of one year of experience in Federal Child Nutrition Programs.
