Probation and Parole Officer-Juvenile

The Louisiana Office of Juvenile Justice (OJJ) is committed to protecting the public by providing safe and effective individualized services to youth, who will become productive, law-abiding citizens. We are seeking dedicated and empathetic individuals to join our team as Probation and Parole Officers-Juvenile. This role plays a critical part in promoting public safety, reducing recidivism, and supporting the successful rehabilitation of justice-involved youth through professional supervision, guidance, and intervention strategies.

This position is responsible for collaborating closely with judges, law enforcement agencies, and community-based organizations to provide services and supervision for juveniles.

  • Following Policies and Procedures: The ability to comply with the policies and procedures of the organization as well as State Civil Service rules, and all applicable federal and state laws.

Minimum qualifications include:

  • Three years of experience in corrections or law enforcement; OR
  • Three years of continuous active military duty (all Military Occupational Specialties apply); OR
  • Six years of full-time experience in any field; OR
  • A bachelor's degree.

Experience substitution is available for every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university, up to a maximum of four years of experience. Necessary special requirements include:

  • Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.
  • Willingness and ability to handle and carry firearms.
  • Willingness and ability to complete the Corrections Juvenile Services-Agent Curriculum.

Job duties include:

  • Monitoring youth compliance with court-ordered conditions under direct supervision.
  • Conducting risk assessments and assisting in developing supervision plans.
  • Performing home and field visits to observe behavior and environment.
  • Collaborating with families, schools, and service providers to support youth development.
  • Maintaining detailed case documentation and preparing reports for internal and external stakeholders.

The incumbent of this position must not have been convicted or pled nolo contendere to a crime listed in R.S. 15:587.1 (c).
