Reliability Engineer

The Reliability Engineer at Evonik Lafayette, Louisiana, plays a key role in enhancing the safety and operational integrity of the maintenance department through reliability improvement initiatives. This position provides engineering expertise to optimize asset management strategies, minimize equipment failures and unplanned downtime, and foster a culture of continuous improvement. By collaborating with maintenance personnel and production teams, the Reliability Engineer ensures effective maintenance execution and adherence to safety protocols, thereby supporting Evonik's commitment to operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, ISO, RC, and site health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Support and uphold all plant policies, rules, and safety procedures.
  • Participate in safety reviews, PSSRs, and other safety-related initiatives.
  • Coordinate contractor activities and verify compliance with OSHA and site safety requirements.
  • Guide mechanical maintenance teams in troubleshooting, repairing, and installing process equipment.
  • Develop and optimize maintenance strategies (RCM, FMEA) and manage the site's asset management program.
  • Lead reliability engineering activities, including data analysis, failure investigations, and improvement recommendations.
  • Maintain and improve documentation such as procedures, job packages, diagrams, and reliability reports.
  • Support daily operations by tracking KPIs, managing spare parts, updating CMMS/SAP data, and coordinating emergency repairs.
  • Plan and support plant outages/turnarounds and participate in the on-call rotation to ensure continuous operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or industry-related degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five 3-5 years of experience as a Maintenance/Reliability Engineer required.
  • Certification as a Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) preferred.
  • Proficiency in SAP and Microsoft Office Software Suite.
  • Be able to work in a plant environment, handling hazardous materials.
  • Be able to properly wear all required safety equipment including hard hats, hearing protection, eye protection, safety shoes and other safety equipment required by the immediate supervisor.
  • Vibration Analysis certification(s) preferred.
  • Machinery Lubrication certification(s) preferred.
  • Precision Maintenance experience preferred.
