The Purchasing Manager is responsible for managing the purchasing department. This position will be responsible for ensuring all purchasing needs are planned and fulfilled on time and in full. A primary objective of the position is to ensure positive profitability by securing raw materials within budget and meeting or exceeding the set gross profit margin, as well as, contracting all essential vitamins and minerals at proper volumes.
Duties and Day-to-Day Responsibilities, but not limited to the following:
- Oversee the Purchasing Department & Staff
- Manage annual RFQ/Bid process and purchase contracts
- Maintains all vendor contacts
- Determine if materials are cheaper to be made in house versus purchased outright
- Handle vendor relations including but not limited to price and term negotiations
- Travel to other WG locations as need
- Attend Tradeshows as needed
- Assist with other projects as needed
- Oversee the following tasks:
- Get quotes for updated cost on raw materials for pricing
- Update pricing database with current raw material cost as purchased or quoted
- Track vendor shipments and provide ETA on lead times
- Assist production in determining when and which raws need to be ordered when sales orders are entered
- Enter/place purchase orders for raw materials for all facilities
- Set up pick up/delivery for raw material shipments
- Place orders for inventory supplies, plant PPE, etc.
Minimum Training, Education, and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent educational training or business experience may be acceptable
- Minimum 3 years' purchasing experience necessary
- Experience using Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains or similar software is preferred
- Intermediate knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office including Excel and Outlook are required
- Able to effectively interface with internal and external customers
- Must be able to handle confidential information with maximum discretion
