Summary
This is the second of five levels in the Equipment Maintenance series.
Incumbents independently diagnose, repair and maintain vehicles and/or equipment. Responsibilities may include independently completing all repairs on a variety of vehicles and equipment; recommending repair or replacement of equipment; estimating repair costs; welding and fabricating parts; providing training to lower-level vehicle maintenance technicians and mechanics and performing the duties of the lower level.
Examples of Duties

- Diagnoses, repairs, cleans, adjusts, overhauls, and installs vehicle systems and replaces applicable parts; performs inspections to ensure vehicles are in compliance with safety regulations.
- Performs preventative maintenance and servicing activities which, depending on assignment, may include changing oil; changing filters; applying lubricants; checking fluid levels; inspecting brakes and tires; and performing other related activities.
- Uses and maintains a full set of hand, power and shop tools and equipment related to the work; may use welding, cutting, and/or brazing equipment as necessary.
- Completes a variety of logs, documents, and/or simple reports regarding quantity of materials handled, equipment operations, vehicle conditions, maintenance and repair activities, and/or other related information.
- May train lower-level staff on work methods.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position does not require supervisory responsibilities.
RequirementsEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.), and four years' experience in vehicle or equipment maintenance and repair; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS - Valid Driver's License as per State law or requirement.
- May require Louisiana Commercial Driver's License (CDL);
- Minimum of 70% score on Parish Departmental Mechanic written and hands on skills test.

UNIFORM An employee in this position will be supplied with a uniform, provided by the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury. The employee is responsible for abiding by the Police Jury's Uniform Agreement.
