Position Title: Director of Quality
Location: Greensburg, LA or Amite, LA (with regular travel between company sites)
Reports To: Chief Executive Officer
Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Summary

Southland Steel Fabricators is seeking an experienced and credentialed Director of Quality to lead and unify quality initiatives across all divisions, including Grid Structures, Southland Industrial Coatings, and SolarPile USA. This individual will be responsible for driving a culture of quality, maintaining and advancing the company's Quality Management System (QMS), and ensuring compliance with industry standards and customer requirements.

The Director of Quality must be a Certified Weld Instructor to AWS D1.1 and hold a current UT Level II certification (Level III preferred). This is a senior leadership role reporting directly to the CEO, responsible for setting the tone and structure for quality excellence company wide.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction and oversight for quality programs across all divisions.

• Supervise and develop Quality Managers at each facility to ensure consistency and accountability in QC and NDT operations.

• Lead the development, implementation, and continual improvement of Southland's Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with AISC, AWS and other applicable standards.

• Oversee compliance with AWS D1.1 welding code and manage welder qualification and weld procedure documentation.

• Direct all internal audits and coordinate with third-party and customer auditors; ensure readiness for all certifications and compliance reviews.

• Manage and monitor non-destructive testing (NDT) procedures and documentation, ensuring they meet regulatory and customer standards.

• Act as the senior point of contact for all quality-related customer inquiries, complaints, and resolution efforts.

• Lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) processes across divisions.

• Promote and lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, and other methodologies to reduce waste and improve quality.

• Analyze quality data and trends; develop and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive decision-making and performance improvement.

• Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Engineering, Production, and Project Management to integrate quality into every stage of execution.

• Develop and lead training and mentorship programs for quality staff and welders, reinforcing a proactive, accountability-driven quality culture.

• Represent Southland's quality philosophy and standards in client-facing situations and industry forums.

Required Qualifications

• Certified Weld Instructor to AWS D1.1 – Required

• UT Level II certification – Required (Level III preferred)

• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in quality leadership roles within structural steel fabrication or heavy industrial manufacturing

• Strong leadership capabilities with a demonstrated ability to manage cross-functional teams

• Deep knowledge of structural welding procedures, steel fabrication, and NDT processes

• Experience managing internal and external audits and compliance programs

• Skilled in using data and metrics to assess performance and drive continuous improvement

• Willingness to travel regularly between Southland's operational facilities and project sites across the United States
