The Accounting Consultant will support MCNA Dental Medicaid through submission of timely, accurate, and complete state agency reports, associated audits, and responses to regulatory inquiries, including internal and external ad-hoc requests.
This individual will be a subject matter expert in reviewing MCNA Dental's state contracts, validating state reporting and GAAP compliance across multiple contracts and instill financial stewardship through analytical and detail review of current and historical financials.
This role will be an individual contributor, but will matrix heavily with many stakeholders across MCNA's Operations, Actuarial, Finance, and Accounting groups.
This individual will:
Be the subject matter expert for multiple assigned state contracts and their impact on financial reporting
Complete and submit state agency financial reports for multiple assigned Medicaid contracts and ensure agency report submissions are compliant with regulatory requirements
Ensure accuracy of assigned state agency reports by validating against financial statements and general ledger
Support audit requests from state agencies, external auditors, and internal audit team by responding to regulatory inquiries and data requests
Correspond with state agency personnel, external auditors, and controllership team and operations team partners on various requests
Perform detailed review of current and historical state contracts as well as analytical analysis of reported financials to support accuracy and compliance with state contracts and GAAP reporting
Applicants should understand that this role is not a standard accounting role (no journal entries) and is primarily a financial reporting and data analytics role

Primary Responsibilities:
Support the accurate completion of all required financial regulatory reporting within mandated timelines
Ensure that regulatory financial reports are compliant with regulatory requirements
Review applicable state Medicaid communications and stay current on multiple state Medicaid financial reporting requirements
Coordinate the preparation of written responses to routine inquiries and questions received from state Medicaid regulatory agencies related to the financial regulatory reports
Prepare documentation in support of external and internal audits
Regularly update management as regulatory reporting requirements change
Support a wide range of state Medicaid reporting efforts
Validate and reconcile data received from multiple sources (i.e., claims processing systems, financial data repositories, Microsoft Excel models, general ledger, etc.)
Proactively build analytical tools to validate trends and assess reasonableness of financial results
Participate in process improvement and automation initiatives designed to reduce the number of man hours involved across multiple accounting and reporting processes and increase accuracy of reported data
Work extensively with cross-functional areas (Operations, Actuarial, Finance, and Accounting), to gather and analyze financial data needed for regulatory reporting and audits

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree finance, accounting, business administration, or related field
4+ years of experience in finance or accounting or related field
Expertise in data analytics, financial analysis and critical thinking (‘outside the box')
Advanced level of proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Access, Word), including ability to analyze and manipulate data in excel including using pivot tables and formulas
Proven project management and organizational skills
Proven solid verbal and written communication skills, comfortable working independently
Demonstrate technical and financial understanding of data repositories, contracts, claim system operations, and the resulting manipulation of data into financial regulatory reporting
Reside within the USA
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in preparing financial reporting for regulatory agencies
Experience with PeopleSoft Financials or other general ledger accounting systems
Healthcare Insurance experience
Financial and/or Accounting experience handling regulated entities
Working knowledge of GAAP Accounting Principles
Proven solid analytical skills and attention to detail, including ability to manage and synthesize large contracts
Proven natural curiosity to learn more and dig into details
Proven ability to collaborate effectively in matrix relationships
Proven ability to influence without authority
Proven ability to drive multiple priorities to resolution

The salary range for this role is $71,600 to $140,600 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
