What You'll Do: As a Civil Construction Estimator, you will play a key role in ensuring the success of our projects by developing accurate cost estimates and assisting in preconstruction planning. Your responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for concrete paving, earthwork, drainage, and heavy highway projects
  • Perform quantity takeoffs using estimating software (HCSS HeavyBid, Bluebeam, Agtek, AutoCAD, or similar tools)
  • Analyze plans, blueprints, and contract specifications to ensure accurate project scoping
  • Develop bid proposals that align with DOT, municipal, and private contract requirements
  • Solicit, review, and negotiate subcontractor and supplier pricing for competitive bidding
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field teams to refine estimates
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and propose value engineering solutions
  • Assist with project scheduling, risk assessment, and budget forecasting
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and bid reviews to ensure project success
  • Stay updated on industry trends, material costs, and construction regulations
Salary Range: $72,800 - $125,000

Position Requirements: What We're Looking For: We are seeking a detail-oriented, analytical, and motivated Civil Construction Estimator with the following qualifications:

Technical Skills:
  • Estimating Software Proficiency - Experience with HCSS HeavyBid, Agtek, Bluebeam, ProEst, PlanSwift, Primavera P6, or AutoCAD
  • Blueprint & Plan Reading - Ability to interpret civil and structural drawings, project specifications, and contract documents
  • Quantity Takeoffs & Cost Estimation - Expertise in performing detailed takeoffs for concrete, earthwork, drainage, and structural components
  • Bidding & Proposal Development - Ability to prepare competitive bids for DOT and municipal projects
  • Scheduling & Project Phasing - Knowledge of project timelines, material procurement, and workforce planning
  • Subcontractor & Vendor Coordination - Ability to request and analyze subcontractor quotes and supplier pricing
Industry Knowledge:
  • DOT & Government Project Experience - Familiarity with state DOT bidding processes and public works contracts
  • Concrete Construction Expertise - Understanding of paving, formwork, rebar placement, and curing methods
  • Heavy Highway & Infrastructure - Experience with roadway grading, bridge structures, drainage, excavation, and site development
Soft Skills:
  • Strong Analytical & Critical Thinking - Ability to assess risks and develop cost-effective solutions
  • Detail-Oriented - Precision in reviewing specifications, plans, and cost breakdowns
  • Effective Communication - Comfortable collaborating with project managers, engineers, and clients
  • Negotiation Skills - Ability to secure competitive pricing from subcontractors and suppliers
  • Time Management - Capability to handle multiple bids with strict deadlines
