Under the guidance of an Electrical Supervisor, the Surface Electrician performs advanced installation, maintenance, repair, and construction tasks related to electrical systems. This role requires a high level of expertise and independent problem-solving in a dynamic operational environment.
MAJOR JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Demonstrate advanced proficiency in electrical tasks and a solid understanding of related skills such as welding (electric and gas), rigging, pipefitting,machinery setup and operation, metal fabrication, and general construction, maintenance, and installation work.
• Conduct maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and installations of electrical systems and equipment, leveraging technical expertise, teamwork, and analytical abilities.
• Interpret detailed electrical diagrams and technical drawings to identify and resolve issues efficiently.
• Occasionally perform minor carpentry or painting tasks and assist in mentoring less-experienced team members.
• Support senior electricians when needed, or independently lead tasks and guide others within the scope of capabilities.
• Utilize a wide range of tools and equipment essential to electrical work, interpret technical plans, and apply basic mathematical principles effectively.
• Perform routine maintenance duties, including lubrication, cleaning, and equipment inspections.
• Diagnose and address electrical malfunctions across various machinery and systems in the facility.
• Handle battery maintenance and servicing tasks in multiple work environments.
• Maintain a clean, organized workspace and ensure tools are kept in optimal condition.
• Execute additional related duties as assigned by leadership.
• Operate with integrity and accountability, often with minimal oversight.
• Participate in advanced skill-building assignments for training purposes, as directed.
• Adhere to industry-standard manufacturing practices and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
• Typically requires 2-3 years of hands-on shop and electrical experience, or completion of a structured training program.
• Proficient in operating hand tools, electrical testing devices, and diagnostic equipment.
• In-depth understanding of motor controls, drives, and electronic systems troubleshooting.
Certifications/Affiliations Required
• Must hold a valid electrician certification, provide documented proof of electrical experience, and evidence of formal training.

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Essential Job Functions
1. Maintain cleanliness of work areas and shops, involving bending, stooping, and lifting items up to 50 pounds from various surfaces.
2. Work at ground level or elevated positions (e.g., ladders, platforms, or buckets), requiring climbing, bending, twisting, and lifting up to 50 pounds; assist in setting up ladders or scaffolding as needed.
3. Operate mobile equipment such as forklifts, winches, or light vehicles, using hand-eye coordination and signals to position materials accurately.
4. Independently assess tasks, determine necessary procedures, and source required parts with little supervision.
5. Manage parts ordering or provide accurate details for procurement, understanding inventory storage and replacement processes.
6. Excel in both solo and group settings, offering guidance to peers when appropriate.
7. Make informed decisions during equipment breakdowns, assessing repair scope and communicating effectively with supervisors.
8. Assist other trades (e.g., mechanics, carpenters) with related tasks, involving physical activities like climbing and lifting up to 50 pounds.
9. Work flexible hours, including early starts, extended shifts, or schedule adjustments as needed.
10. Adapt to varying shift patterns, potentially working solo or alongside skilled maintenance staff.
11. Collaborate with colleagues, demonstrating strong written and verbal communication skills.
12. Troubleshoot and repair diverse facility equipment, documenting work accurately across multiple areas.
