The Opportunity

Expanding Personal Injury Law Firm has an immediate opening for a Director of Finance in our Lafayette, Louisiana office.

We are seeking a meticulous Director to be accountable to our Partners and Accounting Department. This role requires strong interpersonal skills where professionalism, confidentiality, and integrity are showcased. A successful candidate for the role will be team and detail-oriented. Success in this role will also require the ability to multi-task and be solution driven to ensure the financial health of the firm.

Objective

Continuously improve financial efficiency by finding places to cut cost and to provide financial reports and analysis to support Partners with strategic decision process.

Desired Outcomes

  1. Accountable to increase revenue
    • Monitor, track, analyze, and make recommendations on commission and referral fees to maximize Laborde Earles profits
    • Monitor, track, analyze, and make recommendations on marketing spend to minimize cost per case while increasing number of acquisitions
    • Proficiently analyze financial data, create accurate forecasts, and develop comprehensive financial strategies to optimize resource allocation and drive profitability
  2. Accountable for timely and accurate financial planning, analysis and reporting to support Partners' decisions, firm growth and stability
    • Strategic thinking and alignment of financial goals with overall business objectives, identifying growth opportunities, and anticipating market trends
    • Identify potential financial risks, implementing robust internal controls, and mitigating risks through proactive strategies. Provide risk assessment analysis incorporating projected growth models of up to 5+ years.
    • Develop protocols for all financial transactions
    • Effectively communicate complex financial information to diverse audiences, including Partners and non-financial Leadership Team members
    • Work with cross-departmental leadership to highlight each department's fiscal impact on the overall fiscal health
    • Embrace technology, utilizing advanced financial software and data analytics to gain insights and enhance decision-making. Support the company transition through AI-generated software options that help achieve maximum profitability and team member productivity.
  3. Accountable for developing expenditure accountability for the firm
    • Oversee the firm's fiscal activity
    • Monitor financial performance by measuring and analyzing results, initiating corrective actions, and minimizing the impact of variances
    • Develop financial strategies by forecasting capital, facilities, and staff requirements; identifying monetary resources; and developing action plans
    • Review major vendor proposals, negotiating for best outcome, and make recommendations
    • Accomplish finance human resource strategies by determining accountabilities, communicating, and enforcing values, policies and procedures, planning, monitoring, and creating objective and competitive compensation strategies
  4. Accountable to maintain a high level of confidentiality while providing leadership and oversight to the accounting department
    • Provide leadership and oversight of 6-8 finance personnel, either directly or indirectly
    • Mentor and develop team members, managing work allocation, systems training, performance evaluations, and the building of an effective and efficient team dynamic
    • Maintain compliance and regulatory knowledge ensuring the department's compliance with the Internal Revenue Service, State Attorney General, Louisiana Bar Association, and other relevant financial and tax-related regulations while ensuring adherence to accounting standards

Education and Experience
  • MBA or bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting, or equivalent experience
  • CPA or CGMA certification a plus
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in accounting and financial management practices
  • Experience in a senior management/C-suite position
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift to 15 pounds at times
