Job Description
Post-operative nurses provide intensive care to patients as they awaken from anesthesia after a surgical procedure.
Responsible for all aspects of patient care after they've had surgery
Monitor vital signs, administer medication for pain and nausea, update and educate the family, and transfer to the inpatient unit or discharge depending on the acuity of the patient.
Monitor surgical site itself for potential bleeding or other pathological indications
Log all findings in patient files
Answer patient questions and ensure patient comfort
Monitor patients for condition changes, reporting any changes to physician
Perform intervention duties during post-operative emergencies
Qualifications and Job Info
1-2 years of acute clinical care nursing experience
Current BLS and ACLS
Must have current state license
